These scores help our admissions team determine whether you have the English language skills to succeed academically, vocationally, and socially in your program.

In this quick FAQ, you’ll find everything you need to know about English language test requirements at the Carroll School.

Who is required to submit an English language test score?

Candidates who received their bachelor’s and master’s degrees from a university where English is not the sole language of instruction are required to submit an English language test score. Candidates can submit TOEFL, IELTS, and PTE English Test scores.

U.S. citizens and permanent residents are exempt from this requirement.

Can I waive the English language test requirement?

There are two ways that international students whose first language is not English can waive this requirement:

  1. If you completed the equivalent of a four-year U.S. bachelor’s degree or two-year master’s degree at a university where the language of instruction was English.

To be eligible for the waiver, applicants must have completed their full degree at an English-language university before starting their program at the Carroll School of Management. The language of instruction must be noted on their transcript or verified in a letter on official letterhead from their university.
  2. You can also waive the requirement if you have two or more years of full-time work experience in the United States, or are currently employed in the U.S.

Important note: You can waive the requirement yourself in the application. You do not need to separately request a waiver!
